12. Virtual Private Network (VPN)

A VPN is a point-to-point connection between two hosts that allows them to communicate.

A VPN is not automatically secure or encrypted by default. It becomes secure only when the correct security protocols are chosen and configured properly.

VPNs are often used by remote users to connect to their organization’s network. They can also be used to connect different sites or business partners over the internet.

The purpose is to create a trusted communication path over an untrusted network such as the internet.

Main Idea
A VPN connects two points over a network, and it is secure only if it is properly configured with the right security protections.
